Heavy rain and flooding continued into 08 October in central parts of Vietnam. At least 5 people have now died and 8 are still missing.
FloodList reported on 08 October that flooding had struck central provinces, in particular Quang Tri province. Since then, disaster authorities reported over 13,000 people have been evacuated in Quang Tri. Around 1,000 others were evacuated in Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang and Quang Nam.
A total of 88 communities have been flooded across affected provinces, with 71 of them in Quang Tri Province, in particular in Hai Lang and Trieu Phong districts. Media report over 46,000 people from 13,800 households have been affected in Quang Tri.
Updated figures from Vietnam’s Disaster Management Authority (DMA) show that 2 people died in Quang Tri, with further fatalities reported in Quang Ngai (1), Gia Lai (1) and Dak Lak (1). A further 8 people were missing including 6 in Quang Tri, 1 in Thua Thien Hue and 1 in Gia Lai.
Further heavy rain fell in the period 07 to 08 October. Cam Tuyen in Quang Tri recorded 422mm of rain in 24 hours to 08 October. However DMA reported on 08 October that flood waters in some areas had started to recede.
