One person has been killed and three others injured in storms and flash floods that hit Sydney earlier today, 24 March 2014.
Storms brought as much as 70mm of rainfall in some areas of the city. The area south of Little Bay is thought to have been the worst affected. The severe weather is expected to continue in New south Wales coastal areas, although some forecasts say that the worst has passed for Sydney.

The rain came down so quickly some streets were flooded in a matter of minutes, with locals reporting of cars floating down streets on the flood water. Conditions are treacherous for drives in some areas and authorities are warning drivers not to attempt driving through flood waters. As many as 6 flood rescues had to be carried out by the emergency services, some of whom were trapped in flood waters in their vehicles. Roads had to be closed in many areas of the city including Roseberry, Zetland, Heathcote, Paddington, Sutherland and Menai.
