1 Dead After Floods in Southern France

A 69 year old man was swept away by floods in Bagnères-de-Bigorre, France, after heavy storms hit the area during the evening of Friday 13 June and Saturday 14 June, 2014.

The area around Lourdes and Bagneres-de-Bigorre were some of the worst hit on Friday 13 June. The storms continued through the weekend and by Sunday 15 June the departments of Hautes-Pyrénées, Ariège, Haute-Corse, Corse-Du-Sud, Bouches-Du-Rhône and Var had all been affected.

Some of the most violent storms were fortunately at sea. However in Var, the town of Montfort-sur-Argens saw 94mm of rainfall. Houses and cars were reported as damaged as a result of flooding the departments of Ariège and Hautes-Pyrénées.

By Sunday 15 June 2014 the heavy rain and storms had moved further west to hit parts of northern Italy.
