1 Killed in Gaziantep, Turkey

One woman drowned in floods in Turkey’s south eastern province of Gaziantep on Saturday 24 May 2014.

Just under 1 hour of torrential rain on Saturday was enough to inundate streets and homes in the city of Gaziantep (Antep), which lies close to the border with Syria.

Many houses were damaged and several people were left stranded in their vehicles, some taking refuge of the roofs of cars and buses.

Some reports say that the parts of the Ersin Arslan State Hospital were also flooded.

The city’s drainage system was unable to deal with the huge amont of rainfall, which, according to local authorities, had not been forecast.
