Sweden – Flash Floods in Gothenburg After Heavy Rain

Heavy rain caused urban flooding in the Swedish city of Gothenburg on 11 September 2019.

Local media said Kållered in Mölndal Municipality, Västra Götaland County, about 10km south of Gothenburg was the worst hit area.

Around 35 mm of rain fell in 24 hours in Kållered on 11 September according Sweden’s meteorological agency SMHI. Most of that total fell during the afternoon and early evening.

Several roads were flooded, including part of the E6 motorway, causing severe problems for drivers. Trains were also affected with some services cancelled.
