UK National Flood Action Campaign – “Floods Destroy – Be Prepared”

After the seemingly endless flooding of last winter, the UK Environment Agency has launched a 2 week national flood action campaign entitled ‘Floods destroy – be prepared’.

The campaign is particularly aimed at residents in the west of England which was badly hit last year in the wettest winter for 250 years.

The campaign will run until 16 November. Residents and local businesses are being encouraged to take a series of simple steps to protect themselves, their families and homes.

The three most important steps are:

  • use the Environment Agency’s maps to find out if you are at risk of flooding
  • sign up for free flood warnings in your area
  • prepare a personal flood plan

Help and advice is also available by calling Floodline 0345 988 1188 or 0845 988 1188 or visit the Environment Agency website or the Floods Destroy campaign website.

The Environment Agency is also using Twitter to publicize the campaign. Use the hashtag #floodaware to find out more.

Twitter users and supporters of the campaign can also opt to include a Twibbon. Details are available here.
