Following the devastating flooding that struck Dar es Salaam from 11 April 2014 onwards, killing as many as 41 people, heavy floods struck in Mbeya Region over the weekend of 19 April 2014. The flooding was caused by several days of heavy rainfall in the region.
At least 3 people have been reported as killed in the flooding in Kyela District. Transport infrastructure has also been badly damaged. Two areas – Unyakyusa and Ipinda – are said to have been completely cut-off after bridges were damaged and roads blocked.
