Days of heavy rainfall in eastern Tanzania has caused damaging floods in Pwani Region.
Media, quoting local officials, said that at least 3,500 houses and 6,600 hectares of farms have been swept away by floods in Rufiji district where the Rufiji River broke its banks.
Several villages in the district have been affected but no fatalities were reported. Hundreds of people have been displaced and have moved to shelters and public buildings.
Power supply has been interrupted in some areas, including Mohoro. There is also concern that damage to crops and farmland will result in food shortages.
Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) warned of further heavy rain across the country over the coming days.
