Flash flooding swept across parts of Memphis metropolitan area and the Mid-South on Tuesday 4 February 2014. Up to 4 inches (10 cm) of rain fell in just a few hours in some areas. Many schools and colleges in the area have been closed, as have some churches and community centers.
The flooding has caused numerous problems for drivers. Some roads have been blocked by the flooding and high flood waters have caused some traffic accidents.

Earlier flash flood warnings were issued for several counties across the state, including Decatur, Eastern Chester, Hardin County, Henderson, East Central Madison and Mcnairy, although many of these have since been cancelled.
There were also flash flood warnings for Logan County and Warren County in Kentucky, and Forrest County and Lamar County In Mississippi.
