Venezuela – Floods in La Guaira Leave 3 Dead

At least 3 people have died after heavy rain and flooding in areas of Caracas and the northern state of La Guaira in Venezuela.

On 25 October 2020 Venezuela Civil Protection reported heavy rainfall and flooding affected Carabobo, Aragua, Miranda, La Guaira, Guárico, Delta Amacuro, Anzoátegui, Sucre and Monagas states and areas of the Capital District, Caracas. The recent heavy rain was as a result of the passage of a tropical wave which is moving across the Caribbean Sea.

Areas of the the state of La Guaira (previously Vargas) were particularly badly affected. The state governor, José Alejandro Terán, reported widespread damages after flooding in the Macuto and Caraballeda parishes following the overflow of several rivers and streams. The flooding blocked roads, caused power outages and damaged buildings and homes. Governor Terán confirmed 3 fatalities and offered his condolences.

In nearby Capital District, Civil Protection reported flooding destroyed or damaged dozens of houses, leaving at least 14 families homeless and thousands of people affected.
