1 Killed, 4,000 Evacuated After Floods in Southern Philippines

Over 6,000 families have been affected an 1 person killed in recent flooding in Cotabato and Maguindanao provinces in the Philippines. The worst of the flooding occurred between 29 and 31 August 2014 after a period of heavy rainfall.

The Philippines National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that 1 person was killed after a local river overflowed in South Upi, Maguindanao.

The NDRRMC also said that over 6,000 families had been affected by flooding over the last few days in the towns of Tulunan and Pikit, Cotabato province.

Flooding in Pikit was caused by an overflowing river, forcing around 292 families to evacuate from their homes. Pikit is a low lying area located near to the Liguasan Marsh.

Around 600 families were evacuated from their homes in Tulunan on 31 August 2014, but were able to return soon after.
