According to the latest figures from Bihar’s Disaster Management Department, 24 August 2014, the current flood situation has now left 33,200 people displaced and living in 146 relief camps set up by the department.
The Mahananda river recently overflowed flooding the district of Purnia and floods have now affected 17 districts in the state. Nalanda, Sheikhpura and Darbhanga are among the worst affected. As many as 36 people are thought to have been killed in the floods or flood related incidents.
Around 1.8 million people have been affected by flooding that first began in the state in mid August after heavy rain in river catchment areas in Nepal.
