Flooding Affects 200 Families in Lampang Province, Thailand

Floods in 5 villages in Lampang Province, Thailand have affected 200 families. Meanwhile heavy rain in Bangkok has left some of the city’s streets under 20cm of water.

NNT (National News Bureau of Thailand) are reporting that the Lam Huai Mae Wa River overflowed its banks causing flooding in Thoen District in the northern province of Lampang, earlier today 22 October 2014.

Around 200 families in 5 different villages in the area have been severely affected, although no injuries have been reported. Homes of the families are said to have been completely inundated and officials from Thailand’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department (DDPM) are coordinating distribution of food, water and other supplies. DDPM officials were hopeful that the flood water could soon recede should there be no further heavy rain.
