Iran Floods – at Least 10 Killed in Tehran and Hormozgan Provinces

Iran state television is reporting that at least 10 people have died in flash floods in the provinces of Tehran in the north and Hormozgan in the south.

Six of the victims died in floods near the city of Pakdasht, south-east of Tehran, on Friday 18 September. They were caught in flash floods when a river broke its banks.

Also on Friday 18 September, four people died in flash floods in the southern Hormozgan province.

Severe flash floods are not uncommon in Iran. At least 11 people died in flash floods in Iran during July this year after heavy rain fell in northern and western areas, affecting 10 provinces. In April, over 70 people were injured after flooding in Qazvin province. Three people died and 900 homes destroyed after floods struck in Hormozgan, Kerman and Sistan-Baluchestan provinces in March 2015.
