Pakistan – Deadly Flash Floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Flash floods triggered by a glacial lake outburst flood destroyed homes and damaged buildings in the Lower Chitral district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.

The flooding occurred in the Golen valley of Lower Chitral district on 13 July, 2020. Power and water infrastructure was damaged and roads washed away. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reports that 2 houses were destroyed and 8 damaged. A further 6 other buildings including shops and mosques were also damaged. Local media reported that damage to bridges and roads in the area left residents of over 500 homes stranded.

A similar glacial lake outburst flood occurred in the area on 07 July, 2019.

Meanwhile heavy rain caused flash floods in South Waziristan district, also on 13 July. PDMA report 2 fatalities and 44 houses damaged.
