Turkey – 77 Dead, 34 Still Missing in Floods

A week after flooding struck, rescue workers in Turkey are continuing their search for people missing in the northwestern Black Sea provinces of Kastamonu, Sinop and Bartın.

Flooding began after heavy rainfall from 10 August. By 15 August, authorities reported 59 deaths across the 3 provinces, with many thought to be still missing or at least unaccounted for.

As of 17 August, disaster authorities said a total of 34 people were still now missing, including 26 people Bozkurt district in Kastamonu Province, which was that hardest hit by the the floods. A further 8 people are still missing in Sinop Province.

Meanwhile the death toll has increased to 77, which includes 62 in Kastamonu, 14 in Sinop, and 1 in Bartın.
