Flood Warnings in Italy as 2 People Killed in Rome

Heavy rain and flooding has once again hit parts of Italy, including Sardinia, Umbria, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna and Lazio, including areas around the capital, Rome, where two people died.

ANSA have reported that the two victims – an elderly couple – died after they were trapped in their vehicle in a flooded underpass in Ciociaria, south of the city. Emergency services attempted to rescue the couple but were unsuccessful.

As many as 13 people have now died in flood and severe weather related incidents in Italy since early November.

Elsewhere, 76.2 mm of rain fell in Rimini, Emilia-Romagna, in the last 24 hours. Further heavy rain and storms are expected and severe weather warnings were in place in 13 or the country’s 20 regions.
