Floods in Romania Leave 1 Dead

At least one person has died and 500 homes damaged after heavy rain caused flooding in parts of norther-western Romania yesterday, 27 May 2015.

ECHO are reporting that heavy rainfall on 27 May 2015 in parts of the north west of Romania caused flooding in 31 different locations.

Romanian civil protection authorities are reporting that 1 person has been killed in the floods in Salaj. At least 500 homes have been damaged by flooding and over 150 people have been evacuated from their homes in Salaj, Maramures and Satu Mare counties. A red alert for high river levels and possible flooding remains in place for parts of Salaj and Satu Mare.

Romania suffered severe flooding from April onwards last year, when at least 4 people died. The country suffered further floods in May when wide areas of the Balkans were under water. Flooding continued to affect Romania during the next few months, until as late as August.
