Bosnia Declares State of Emergency after Recent Floods

The floods that struck in Bosnia on 05 and 06 August have prompted the the government of Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) to declare a state of emergency. One wonders just how much more the people of Bosnia can take after the devastating floods in May. The clean up had hardly begun. Many areas that suffered so badly in May were once again under water this week.

The state of emergency will allow affected communities access to government resources to aid recovery which will be carried out under the guidance of the Department of Civil Protection.

Local media say that a car was swept away by flood waters in Banja Luka on Wednesday 06 August 2014. The driver of the car is still missing.

Serbia

Serbia was also affected by the heavy rain and flooding earlier this week. One man was killed after he drowned in his flooded home in Banja Koviljaca, western Serbia.
