Spain and France – 2 Dead, 150 Evacuated After Flash Floods and Landslides

Heavy rain from around 15 November has caused flash flooding and landslides in parts of eastern Spain and southern France.

A man was swept away by flood waters of an overflowing river near Mieres in Girona, Spain on 15 November, El Pais reported.

Further heavy rain in eastern Spain caused a landslide along a railway track between the towns of Terrassa and Manresa, causing a major train crash on 20 November. Media reported that at least 1 person died and 44 were injured.

Meanwhile heavy rain in southern parts of France caused flooding in the Gard department between 20 and 21 November. Local media reported that 150 people were evacuated, mostly in areas near the town of Vauvert where the Le Vistre river had overflowed.
